28th Anniversary road trip

Lincoln and Cindy decide to make Monument Valley their anniverary destination. Why, you might ask, the heck if we know. Heading East from Page, Arizona on SR98 you pass Kaibito, Square Butte, and Porcupine Spring. Turn north at Begay Windmill towards Inscription House Ruin, this has been closed for the last 10 years because of vandalism we were told by a lady at the market/laundermat. 50 miles north of here is Navajo Mountain, Utah. The road has recently been paved to the Utah border. I've read that this is the most reemote school in Utah.Just north of Navajo Mountain. Behind Cindy Are the Canyons of Lake Powell, Escalante, and the San Juan River drainage.

Back on SR160 between Navajo National Monument and Kayenta I spotted these fabrics blowing in the wind in the barbed wire fence. A great image against the sandstone redges in the background. I drove for a while past the image decided I had to turn around and shoot it. I'm glad I did-one of the best shots on the trip

The Duke kind of put Monument Valley on the radar with the numerous films which were shot on location here. John Wayne and film director John Ford have had an impact on the area. Tourists from around the world still come to see where he slept and played.

Bedding down near Fry Canyon, Utah. Fry Canyon is located between Natural Bridges and Hite, Utah. Hite is the marina on the eastern end of Lake Powell or at the beginning of what use to be Glen Canyon.

Awake at dawn, staring through red, tired eyes at Cheezebox Butte . Another sleepless night on the road in the back of the truck. The canyon winds were howlin' and growlin' all night long waking me up every3 minutes or so?

Henriville, Utah area

White sandstone, black/blue clay or is it coal stuff? The sandstone is very soft and washing away with every rain and wind storm.

I drove over to Escalante from St. George the other day to meet with a woman who is building a home. She owns a design firm and aa art gallery in Tampa, Florida. She, like numerous others have decided to make Escalante and other "red rock" areas their homes away from home. Her new spread is 40 acres on the southwest of town on the old city dump, hence the name "the tin can ranch".

On the trip over, which is 200 miles miles, I stopped at the white rocks just north of the town of Henriville, which is just past cannonville, which is just past Tropic, which is just past Bryce Canyon National Park. Check out the pictures.
